Fee Update
On August 16, 2022, as per Town Board Resolution, all Building Department fees have been raised. View 2022 Approved Building Department Fees (PDF).
Payment
We are now accepting Credit Cards. You can Apply for a new Home Improvement license or a permit online at CitySquared.
- To use a Credit/Debit Card there is a convenience fee of 2.45% on Credit Card or Debit Card (with a minimum fee of $1.75)
- There is convenience flat fee of $1.75 for eChecks
If you have any questions both the software company or the Building Clerk Mary Ellen can help walk you through it.
Please Note: When you apply for a permit on line you will get a confirmation email from: support@sca-corp.com (*** check your junk or spam folder if not received in your In Box)
You can also look at the Town's GIS and public information on different properties without registering or creating a password.
Not all information is online except recent history so it is always best to stop in or send a FOIL for information.

- Here you will have to Register with your email address and create a password.
- Then Click "Apply for Permit"
Follow instructions and you can always “Click Here for Support to get help”. Once you apply the permit will be reviewed and you will be emailed for the next steps. Certain permits like Roofing, siding, and renewal irrigation permits can automatically be applied for and paid for using a Credit or Debit Card or an electronic check. (Fees will apply.)

- Driveway Apron Form (PDF) (Submit with Building Permit Application form and Check for $300)

- Please submit $250 check made out to Town of Shelter Island. You must also submit your Liability Accord Certificate with the Town of Shelter Island as the certificate holder and your Workman's Comp certificate if applicable. If you do not have Workman's Comp. then you will need to submit an Exemption form-CE-200.
- Homeowner Annual Irrigation Permit Application (PDF)
- Must be filled out annually and include a check for $350 for irrigation systems without a cistern and a $100 check for irrigation systems with a cistern.

- You must also fill out a Building Permit Application along with the Fast Track Application for Roof Mounted Solar Panels.
