Request for Records (FOIL)

Article 6 of the New York State Public Officers Law, also known as the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) (PDF), allows members of the public to obtain records of state and local government.

The Town of Shelter Island established the following Freedom of Information Officers: Town Clerk, Building Department Clerk, and Chief of Police.

• If requesting records related to the Police Department email the Police Department your Application (PDF) or fill out the form directly on the SIPD page.
• If requesting records from the Building Department email the Building Department your Document Request Form (PDF).
• If requesting any other Town records email the Town Clerk your Application for Public Access to Records (PDF).
• Appeal officer: Town Supervisor.
