Youth Program Descriptions

After School Program

Join the Town of Shelter Island Recreation Department for some fun, games and activities after school. Wear sneakers for active games. Children will be picked up by a Recreation Aide after school and brought over to the Community Center. There is no need for a parent/guardian to be present. All students MUST be picked up by 5:00 PM, at the Community Center. We will not provide supervision after 5:00 PM. You must register for this program ahead of time. No day of drop offs will be allowed.

• Grades - Pre-K (4 years old) - 4th Grade
• Days/Dates - Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays throughout the school year *No program during school holidays, superintendent conferences and half days*
• Time - 2:30 - 5:00PM
• Location - Community Center
• Fees - $10 per child/per day

Tot Play Group (September - June) 

A free play and socialization program for children up to age 4. Drop in activity - no registration required. No fee. Parent/guardian must stay for the duration of the program.

• Ages - Infant to 4 years old
• Days/Dates/Times - Tuesdays 10:00am - 11:00am and Fridays 3:30pm - 4:30pm
• Location - Community Center
• Fees - FREE

Youth Open Gym

If you like to play basketball, volleyball, or indoor soccer or just want to hang out with your friends, come to the Town of Shelter Island Recreation Department's open gym nights.

• Grades - 7th-12th Grade Students
• Days/Dates - Fridays and Saturdays, year-round
• Time - 6:00-9:00 PM
• Location - Fridays and Saturdays are at the Shelter Island School Gym
• Fees - FREE

Youth Basketball Clinic 

Come join in for skills and drills with Coach Miedema. 

• Grades - 2nd -6th 
• Days/Dates - Saturdays 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/28, 3/7 
• Time - 12:30pm - 2:00pm 
• Location - Shelter Island School Gym
• Fees - FREE
